TL;DR
Mechanical Engineer IV (Spacecraft Mechanisms) (Aerospace/Spacecraft Mechanisms): Developing mechanical separation and interfacing systems, moving assemblies, and spacecraft structures across the hardware lifecycle with an accent on requirements, CAD design, structural analysis, fabrication, and qualification testing. Focus on first-order sizing, composite and metallic structures, FEA, configuration development, and compliance with NASA and Space Force standards.
Location: United States export-control eligibility required under ITAR; applicants must be U.S. citizens, lawful permanent residents, protected individuals, or eligible to obtain the required U.S. authorizations.

What you will do
- Develop mechanical separation and interfacing systems, moving mechanical assemblies, and spacecraft structures throughout the hardware lifecycle.
- Develop and refine requirements, configurations, trade studies, and conceptual designs.
- Perform first-order strength and sizing calculations and conduct structural analysis.
- Generate 3-D CAD models, manufacturing drawings, specifications, and related documentation.
- Support production implementation and define hardware development and qualification tests.
- Demonstrate compliance with NASA, Space Force, and other relevant launch-jurisdiction standards while collaborating across disciplines.
Requirements
- B.S. degree in aerospace or mechanical engineering and 8+ years of professional experience in aerospace or a related mechanical engineering field.
- Strong 3-D CAD design and integration skills, preferably with Siemens NX.
- Experience with industry FEA/FEM tools such as Nastran, ANSYS, or FEMAP.
- Experience designing and analyzing composite and metallic structures.
- Understanding of mechanical, structural dynamics, materials, fluids/thermodynamics, and electrical engineering fundamentals.
- Must meet U.S. ITAR export-control eligibility requirements.
Nice to have
- M.S. degree in aerospace or mechanical engineering and/or 10+ years of relevant experience.
- Knowledge of composite manufacturing, material selection, and testing.
- Experience developing physical tests to validate analysis and evaluate assumptions.
- Familiarity with aerospace structural analysis methods such as Bruhn, Niu, Roark, or Shigley’s.
- Experience with launch vehicles or spacecraft mechanisms, or professional/hobbyist experience with a computer or scripting language.
