TL;DR

Focus on advising executive and cross-functional teams during cyber events, interpreting evolving regulations, and strengthening incident response policies, controls, and governance frameworks.

Salary: $172,010–$286,752 base salary annually

What you will do

  • Serve as the lead legal advisor on cybersecurity, incident response, data security, and cyber governance matters.
  • Advise on materiality assessments, regulatory notifications, disclosures, client communications, and escalation during cyber and data incidents.
  • Monitor cybersecurity regulations and assess requirements from NYDFS, SEC, FINRA, state breach laws, privacy laws, and other regulators.
  • Draft and maintain cybersecurity policies, incident response procedures, standards, playbooks, and governance models.
  • Partner with Information Security, Technology, Compliance, Risk, Data Governance, Communications, and executive leadership on controls, exercises, examinations, and remediation.
  • Advise on third-party cybersecurity requirements, vendor oversight, technology integrations, contractual terms, and supervisory expectations.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school and a license to practice in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
  • 8–12+ years of legal experience in cybersecurity, data security, privacy, technology law, or incident response.
  • Financial-services experience involving broker-dealer or investment-advisory regulatory environments.
  • Experience advising on cyber incident response, materiality assessments, regulatory notifications, and supervisory expectations.
  • Knowledge of NYDFS Cybersecurity Rules, state breach laws, Reg S-P, SEC/FINRA expectations, and data protection statutes.
  • Strong analytical, communication, collaboration, and prioritization skills in fast-paced, high-stakes environments.

Nice to have

  • In-house experience in financial services or a regulated technology environment.
  • Experience with supervisory examinations, regulatory inquiries, and remediation involving cyber or technology controls.
  • Knowledge of logging and monitoring, endpoint security, identity and access management, cloud environments, and threat detection platforms.
  • Contract negotiation and drafting, crisis management, and cyber-event communications experience.
  • Cybersecurity or privacy certifications such as CISSP, CISM, CISA, CIPP/US, CIPT, or CIPM.
