TL;DR
Network Architect (GPU/AI) (Distributed Networking): Designing and operating the network connecting XFRA’s distributed compute fleet with an accent on GPU-cluster networking, data center connectivity, ISP services, and resilient wide-area architecture. Focus on evaluating InfiniBand and RoCE performance, automating provisioning, securing unattended sites, and balancing availability, latency, deployment speed, and cost.

Location: San Francisco, United States; On-site

Salary: $175,000–$230,000 per year, plus equity

What you will do

  • Own network architecture for residential nodes and commercial GPU clusters, including routing, switching, security gateways, addressing, management access, and capacity planning.
  • Design data center, WAN, north-south, and east-west connectivity using Ethernet, InfiniBand, and RoCE.
  • Evaluate fiber, ISP, carrier, cloud connectivity, peering, transit, traffic engineering, and failover options.
  • Work with ISPs, carriers, compute, orchestration, security, deployment, and commercial teams on provisioning, testing, incidents, and service requirements.
  • Build secure and resilient deployments with tenant isolation, encrypted connectivity, DDoS mitigation, remote recovery, and out-of-band access.
  • Automate provisioning and operations through configuration validation, staged changes, rollback, telemetry, alerting, runbooks, and acceptance testing.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of relevant network engineering experience or equivalent demonstrated expertise.
  • Strong experience with data center networks and WAN or ISP connectivity across multiple sites.
  • Deep knowledge of TCP/IP, BGP, IPv4/IPv6, routing, switching, segmentation, VPNs, firewalls, QoS, and high availability.
  • Experience with fiber access, carrier service models, high-speed server networking, optics, cabling, MTU, congestion, and oversubscription.
  • Hands-on Linux troubleshooting and network automation using Python, Ansible, or comparable tools.
  • Ability to take ambiguous network problems from design through deployment and production support while explaining performance, resilience, and cost tradeoffs.

Nice to have

  • Production experience with GPU clusters, AI inference, HPC, InfiniBand, RoCE, RDMA, or NCCL performance analysis.
  • Experience with EVPN/VXLAN, leaf-spine fabrics, cloud interconnects, internet peering, or autonomous systems.
  • Experience operating unattended edge sites, zero-touch provisioning, carrier-grade NAT, and remote recovery.
  • Familiarity with Kubernetes networking, multi-tenant compute platforms, and network-aware workload scheduling.
  • Experience qualifying carrier services and negotiating technical requirements across providers or regions.
