TL;DR
Lead Build Reliability Engineer, Structures (Aerospace): Building and scaling reliability and quality systems for the Terran R launch vehicle production program with an accent on aerospace manufacturing, design standardization, configuration control, and in-process verification. Focus on developing inspection and rework processes, solving nonconformances through root-cause and corrective-action work, and coordinating reliability initiatives across engineering, manufacturing, test, and launch teams.

Location: Long Beach, California, United States

Hiring range: $128,000–$192,000 USD annually

What you will do

  • Own reliability and quality activities across design, planning, manufacturing, and program execution for the Terran R vehicle.
  • Standardize drawings, support design for manufacturability, and manage configuration control.
  • Review work instructions, develop processes, and create standard rework and repair documentation.
  • Perform in-process build verification, coordinate traveled work, and support as-built verification.
  • Manage nonconformance processes, root-cause analysis, and corrective actions.
  • Develop specifications, inspection walkdown checklists, quality automation initiatives, and DFM practices in collaboration with Engineering, Additive, Manufacturing, Test, and Launch teams.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or another STEM field.
  • At least 5 years of experience as a Quality Engineer in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Extensive experience working with design engineering, manufacturing, production, and test personnel.
  • In-depth knowledge of aerospace manufacturing, complex assembly practices, and quality processes and controls.
  • Working knowledge of PLM, MES, ERP, and QMS software, plus proficiency in Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Ability to solve complex cross-functional problems, establish project objectives, and communicate effectively with technical teams and management.

Nice to have

  • Knowledge of FMEA, APQP, SPC, or PPV product development methodologies.
  • Successful hardware NPI experience across manufacturing, test, and production systems.
  • Familiarity with high-volume inspection and data-driven acceptance methods.
  • Understanding of AS9100 and ISO 9001 practices for aerospace programs.
  • Experience defining and implementing new processes across diverse teams.
