Founding Backend Engineer – Real-Time Operations Platform (AI)

Location: London-based; remote work only by exception. UK work authorization preferred.

Builds a real-time operations platform for critical infrastructure, transportation, logistics, and aviation.

What you will do

• Own the backend of a real-time and forward scheduling platform.
• Design data models, event ingestion, state machines, APIs, and third-party integrations.
• Build multi-tenant architecture that supports new sites and customers through configuration and data rather than separate code branches.
• Maintain reliable live operational software with testing, staging, deployments, observability, and on-call ownership.
• Define the contract consumed by the TypeScript frontend and support real-time frontend delivery.
• Visit operational sites, work directly with customers, and help hire future engineers.

Requirements

• At least 3 years of experience building and operating production backend systems.
• Strong Python and relational data modelling skills with Postgres.
• Practical experience with concurrency, event ordering, idempotency, and failure recovery.
• Comfort with AWS, production ownership, and reliability-critical systems.
• Ability to reason across a TypeScript frontend boundary.
• Ability to work in London; UK work authorization is preferred.

Nice to have

• Experience with multi-tenant SaaS, event-driven architectures, distributed systems, or difficult legacy-system integrations.
• Experience with scheduling, operational coordination, or aviation and logistics environments.
