Senior Scientist, Oligo Chemistry

Salary: $135,000–$160,000 annual salary, plus bonus or incentive pay

What you will do

• Design, execute, and optimize oligonucleotide synthesis workflows using phosphoramidite chemistry and solid-phase synthesis.
• Apply organic chemistry principles to improve synthesis efficiency, yield, and product quality.
• Develop and optimize cleavage, deprotection, and purification processes using cartridge, HPLC, and related methods.
• Use high-resolution LC-MS and complementary analytical techniques to assess oligo identity, purity, and synthesis failure modes.
• Evaluate and implement new reagents, chemistries, instrumentation, and process improvements for oligo synthesis platforms.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, organic chemistry, biochemistry, or a related discipline; an advanced degree is preferred.
• At least 5 years of hands-on laboratory experience in oligonucleotide synthesis or closely related chemistry.
• Strong practical expertise in phosphoramidite chemistry and solid-phase oligo synthesis.
• Experience using LC-MS, preferably high-resolution LC-MS, to characterize oligos and diagnose synthesis or process issues.
• Experience optimizing cleavage, deprotection, purification, or other downstream process steps.
• Ability to travel 10% domestically and internationally, work in a laboratory for extended periods, and occasionally handle equipment weighing up to 10 lb.

Nice to have

• Experience with high-throughput biology, automation, or NGS-based analysis.
• Experience working with prototype instrumentation and collaborating with engineers.
• Environmental health and safety coordination experience.
