Senior Manager of Research Storage & Data Infrastructure (AI)

What you will do

• Define and manage the roadmap for high-performance file systems, object storage, archival storage, cloud-integrated platforms, and secure research environments.
• Lead storage architecture, technology evaluations, capacity planning, performance optimization, and infrastructure lifecycle management.
• Ensure reliable service delivery for HPC, AI, regulated research, institutional applications, and data-intensive scientific workloads.
• Manage storage vendors and strategic partners through governance meetings, technical reviews, proposals, service assessments, and escalation processes.
• Develop storage governance, retention, archival, backup, replication, immutable recovery, and cyber-resilience capabilities.
• Lead disaster recovery testing, business continuity planning, risk mitigation, and development of storage engineering teams.

Requirements

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in business administration, computer science, data science, information science, or a related field.
• 8+ years of progressive IT experience, including experience managing small or mid-size teams and complex projects involving resources, vendors, and budgets.
• At least 3 years of experience leading technical teams or infrastructure operations in a supervisory or leadership capacity.
• Strong knowledge of storage architecture, capacity planning, backup, replication, data protection, disaster recovery, business continuity, cloud storage, and performance optimization.
• Experience with on-premises, colocation, and/or cloud storage environments and strategic technology partners.
• Experience supporting HPC, AI, machine learning, scientific computing, or large-scale research environments; IBM Storage Scale, Lustre, or comparable parallel file systems are preferred.

Nice to have

• Experience with S3-compatible object storage, multi-tier storage, NVMe, burst buffers, caching layers, or node-local storage.
• Experience supporting genomics, imaging, microscopy, GPU computing, distributed AI training, or large-scale analytics platforms.
• Knowledge of storage benchmarking, observability, telemetry, capacity forecasting, and cyber-resilience frameworks.
