Metallurgical Technician (Additive Manufacturing)

What you will do

• Perform routine imaging, measurements, metallographic evaluations, and material testing according to established procedures.
• Prepare metal specimens and support additive manufacturing development, powder characterization, tensile testing, and heat-treatment trials.
• Operate laboratory equipment and maintain calibration, testing, sample, and equipment records.
• Review results for accuracy, identify unusual material or equipment conditions, and escalate issues.
• Track laboratory work, priorities, schedules, and test documentation to support timely completion.
• Maintain a clean, organized, safe laboratory and contribute to process improvement, inspections, and investigations.

Requirements

• High school diploma, GED, or equivalent experience.
• Experience in manufacturing, quality, laboratory, or technical environments; 1–2 years of hands-on metallurgical laboratory experience is preferred.
• Basic understanding of materials science, metallurgy, metallographic principles, sample preparation, microscopy, tensile testing, and hardness testing.
• Ability to follow detailed procedures, safely operate and troubleshoot laboratory equipment, and accurately document technical data.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Word, plus strong organizational, analytical, communication, and collaboration skills.
• U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government-issued security clearance are required.

Nice to have

• Experience in additive manufacturing, aerospace, defense, or highly regulated manufacturing.
• Experience with Keyence, GOM scanners, advanced metrology, SEM, or other material characterization systems.
• Experience with metal powder characterization, heat-treatment evaluation, ERP, QMS, LIMS, or laboratory tracking systems.
• Experience supporting root cause, nonconformance, material, or corrective-action investigations.
