Underwriter (Fintech)

Location: Salt Lake City, Utah, United States; hybrid

Salary: $61,900–$74,100 USD annual base salary, plus eligibility for annual performance-based cash bonus

What you will do

• Underwrite small business loan applications according to credit policies, procedures, and risk guidelines.
• Analyze financial statements, bank statements, tax returns, application data, and business and personal credit reports.
• Evaluate creditworthiness, identify risks, and structure loans within established guidelines.
• Make credit decisions that balance risk, customer needs, growth, and profitability.
• Document underwriting decisions and their rationale clearly.
• Support additional projects and responsibilities assigned by the manager.

Requirements

• 2+ years of underwriting experience, ideally in a fintech company, bank, or other financial institution.
• Strong knowledge of credit fundamentals in a commercial lending environment.
• Strong analytical skills, sound judgment, and exceptional attention to detail.
• Ability to evaluate complex financial information and communicate decisions effectively.
• Collaborative mindset with strong written and verbal communication skills.
• A bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, economics, or a related field is preferred.
