What you will do

  • Operate distribution resources, including circuit breakers, switches, voltage regulators, and related grid equipment.
  • Direct switching, tagging, and LOTO isolation activities for scheduled work and outages.
  • Respond to distribution disturbances, abnormal system conditions, and emergencies while maintaining grid reliability and continuous electricity supply.
  • Coordinate field crews, electrical equipment, customers, outage scheduling, switch orders, load-flow studies, and contingency planning.
  • Use system models, state estimators, contingency analysis, PI displays, EMS, and ADMS tools to identify and resolve operational issues.
  • Maintain operating procedures, support backup control-center transfers, and mentor Distribution Operator Trainees.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or another technical discipline is preferred but not required.
  • An associate’s degree with demonstrated aptitude in mathematics and electrical theory is accepted, particularly with relevant utility operations experience.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to understand complex technical instructions and documentation.
  • Knowledge of algebra, geometry, electrical theory, distribution and transmission systems, relay protection, safety requirements, and operating procedures.
  • Ability to make critical real-time decisions, operate grid systems, interpret diverse data, and work with limited supervision.
  • Ability to work rotating 12-hour shifts in a control room and perform occasional physical tasks, including lifting up to 25 pounds.
