Assistant or System Protection and Control Technician

Location: Brooksville, Florida, United States. Onsite work across generation plants, transmission switchyards, control houses, and distribution substations; 5–15% travel, overnight stays, emergency call-outs, and work in all weather conditions are required.

What you will do

• Calibrate, install, maintain, repair, and troubleshoot protective relays and associated equipment.
• Maintain and troubleshoot microprocessor and electromechanical relay systems, substation protection systems, control systems, and SCADA.
• Read and interpret single-line drawings, AC/DC schematics, panel wiring diagrams, and panel layouts.
• Perform switching and tagging to obtain equipment clearances for repair, maintenance, and construction.
• Respond to periodic call-outs and power-system emergencies during days, nights, weekends, and holidays.

Requirements

• Assistant-level candidates need a two-year degree, diploma, or certificate in Electronics, Electrical Technology, or a similar electrical field; alternatively, qualifying military electronics experience or journeyman electrician experience is accepted.
• System Technician candidates need the same two-year electrical qualification, qualifying military electronics experience, or journeyman relay technician experience at hirify.global or another utility.
• Pass the applicable technician aptitude test and demonstrate knowledge of AC/DC theory, power-system parameters, computers, and associated software.
• Read electrical and electronic schematics and functional diagrams and operate multimeters, relay test instruments, oscilloscopes, and digital analyzers.
• Obtain Switching and Tagging Certification within 180 days; successful completion of the Assistant SPAC training program or equivalent is required for the technician track.
• Must be able to work lawfully in the United States without employment-based immigration sponsorship now or in the future. Ability to lift, push, and pull up to 75 lbs, climb, work in tight spaces, and perform frequent bending and movement is required.
