Senior Software Engineer (Go)

Location: Toronto, Canada; hybrid schedule with in-office work required on Wednesdays and Thursdays

Salary: CAD 134,200–174,500 annually, plus variable compensation including short-term and long-term incentives.

What you will do

• Design, build, and evolve high-load, highly concurrent backend services for the Energy Control Platform.
• Develop APIs that support utility demand-response and grid-resiliency programs, thermostat event dispatch, and large-scale thermostat-group management.
• Evaluate and adopt modern technologies to solve complex technical challenges at scale.
• Influence technical direction, systems architecture, roadmap decisions, and engineering practices.
• Improve system reliability, delivery, and customer experience through metrics, deployment practices, and resilient design.
• Mentor engineers and contribute to knowledge sharing, team processes, and engineering culture.

Requirements

• Strong experience with Go and designing, implementing, and debugging microservices.
• Experience with Google Cloud Platform and/or AWS, NoSQL databases, and relational databases.
• Confidence with systems design, architecture, scale, concurrency, large data sets, security, redundancy, and failover.
• Hands-on use of AI development tools such as Claude or Copilot, with the ability to validate generated code through testing, review, and incremental rollout.
• Experience with automated testing, CI/CD, sound design patterns, code reviews, cloud or data-center deployment, and production reliability.
• Willingness to participate in an on-call rotation and provide mentorship and technical guidance.

Nice to have

• Experience with Java, Python, or JavaScript.
• Experience building or supporting IoT platforms.
• Interest in turning AI-assisted development into repeatable team leverage.
