Senior Backend Developer/Architect

Location: Remote within Canada; listed locations include Calgary, Markham, Toronto, Vancouver, and Ottawa. Must be able to work in Canada without sponsorship. Some travel may be required based on business demand.

Salary: CAD 137,000–186,000 per year on a full-time schedule.

What you will do

• Design, build, and operate secure, reliable, and scalable backend services in a cloud-native environment.
• Own features and projects end to end, from requirements and design through implementation, testing, rollout, and continuous improvement.
• Develop distributed systems and microservices with a focus on performance, resiliency, and clear API contracts.
• Support service reliability through monitoring, alerting, automation, and on-call participation where applicable.
• Collaborate with partner teams on architecture, data modeling, and platform integrations.
• Improve engineering practices, documentation, code quality, and development tools.

Requirements

• 5–10 years of experience building distributed, highly available backend systems in production.
• Hands-on experience designing and operating large-scale services with clear API contracts and end-to-end ownership.
• Strong systems-level understanding of networking, operating systems, and storage tradeoffs.
• Expert proficiency in at least one of Go, Java, or C++, with the ability to work effectively in other languages.
• Experience with public cloud and Kubernetes or other containerized environments.
• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field, or equivalent experience; a master’s degree is preferred.
