TL;DR
WGL- Pressure Technician I (Natural Gas): Supporting the operation, maintenance, and installation of pressure-regulating equipment at gas system operations facilities with an accent on regulator station maintenance, troubleshooting, inspections, and hands-on mechanical work. Focus on maintaining transmission valves and facilities, completing piping and wiring installations, performing confined-space and site-upkeep work, and progressing through required pressure operations training.

Location: Springfield, VA, United States. Onsite field work at GSO facilities; reporting to various company facilities, shift work, overnight travel, and use of a personal vehicle may be required. Schedule: Monday-Friday, 6:30 AM-3:00 PM EST.

Salary: $33.14 per hour under the collective bargaining agreement.

What you will do

  • Support the operation and maintenance of gas system operations facilities and pressure-regulating equipment.
  • Assist with regulator station troubleshooting, confined-space work, transmission valve maintenance, and transmission service maintenance.
  • Perform station inspections and installation work involving tubing, conduit, wiring, piping, and structural framework.
  • Complete station and site upkeep, including digging, manual labor, snow removal, painting, mowing, and trimming.
  • Read maps, station drawings, and company records; communicate through radio and verbal instructions.
  • Stock and maintain company vehicles, tools, and equipment, and support related administrative processing and safety activities.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED; formal technical training is preferred.
  • At least 18 months of hands-on technical experience with tools, mechanical or pipefitting work, equipment maintenance or installation, pumps, compressors, automotive or small-engine repair, HVAC, plumbing, or regulator maintenance.
  • Mechanical aptitude and basic knowledge of math, physics, electronics, and gas systems, including the ability to smell odorized natural gas.
  • Ability to read basic maps, drawings, and technical documents and use intermediate computer skills for data entry, file management, documents, spreadsheets, and email attachments.
  • Valid driver's license; a medical card is required for vehicles over 10,000 pounds.
  • Ability to pass required assessments and entry-level pressure operations testing, complete training and certifications, and pass the Pressure Technician II exam within 18 months of hire.
