Damage Prevention Technician or Sr Damage Prevention Technician (Natural Gas)

Location: Olathe, Kansas, United States; residency requirement applies. The position is based at the Olathe location and may require reporting outside the regular work area, overnight travel, standby duty, emergency call-outs, weekends, holidays, and overtime.

Hourly pay: $26.25–$30.75, based on experience.

What you will do

• Accurately locate and mark transmission, distribution, service-line, and other company facilities.
• Read and interpret system maps and maintain accurate damage-prevention maps, records, reports, and digital photos.
• Coordinate with company crews, outside contractors, excavators, municipalities, and excavation personnel to prevent facility damage.
• Investigate natural gas facility damage, determine root causes, and report suspected system damage.
• Identify, address, and report safety and encroachment issues through resolution.
• Safely operate and inspect assigned company vehicles and equipment, supporting other operations, construction, maintenance, and service work as needed.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED and two years of experience in natural gas, damage prevention, service, construction and maintenance, or pipeline operations.
• Thorough understanding of company operations and strong interpersonal, communication, persuasion, and influencing skills.
• Ability to use company web systems, upload digital photos, and perform data entry, reference, and retrieval tasks.
• Valid driver's license meeting company standards.
• Ability to obtain and maintain required Operator Qualifications, classroom training, and certifications within six months.
• Safety-sensitive role requiring pre- and post-employment screening, DOT and PHMSA drug testing, and motor vehicle record checks. Ability to work outdoors in all weather, handle rough terrain and high noise, and lift up to 45 pounds is required.
