Software Engineering Manager (Node/TypeScript)

Location: London or Manchester, United Kingdom; hybrid with 1–2 days per week in the office, typically Thursday

What you will do

• Lead the Reminders engineering team and jointly own its direction and outcomes with Product.
• Partner with Product and Design to shape discovery, problem definition, prioritisation, solutions, and roadmap decisions.
• Contribute code where appropriate while guiding full-stack development, architecture, testing, delivery, and production ownership.
• Coach and develop three permanent engineers, support one contractor, and build a high-performing, inclusive, psychologically safe team.
• Manage delivery planning, dependencies, risks, metrics, technical debt, reliability, observability, and incident follow-up.
• Collaborate with Data Science, CRM, platform, Security, Legal, Privacy, and other engineering teams to improve personalisation and manage dependencies.

Requirements

• Experience leading software engineers as an Engineering Manager or in a comparable people-leadership role.
• Strong coaching, mentoring, feedback, people-development, and inclusive leadership skills.
• Mid-to-senior engineering expertise with enough technical depth for full-stack, cloud, architecture, and operational discussions.
• Experience with TDD, collaborative programming, automated testing, CI/CD, production ownership, observability, and operational improvement.
• Experience planning and delivering software initiatives, including estimation, delivery metrics, dependency management, risk management, and technical investment.
• Ability to work across Product, Design, Data Science, CRM, Security, Legal, Privacy, and engineering stakeholders.

Nice to have

• Experience in ecommerce, CRM, customer engagement, retention, reminders, or personalisation.
• Experience with experimentation, A/B testing, or machine-learning teams.
