Nights Editor, EW (Entertainment)

Location: California-Remote; fully remote with no regular in-office requirements, though office visits may be required once or twice per year. Schedule: Monday–Thursday, 2:00 p.m.–10:00 p.m. PT, and Sunday, 12:00 p.m.–8:00 p.m. PT.

Salary: $70,304–$80,000 per year for California.

hirify.global operates Entertainment Weekly, an entertainment news brand with approximately 35 full-time employees primarily based in New York City and Los Angeles.

What you will do

• Lead Entertainment Weekly’s after-hours news operation and serve as the primary editorial decision-maker during the shift.
• Curate the news list, assign stories, edit content, and manage breaking entertainment news coverage.
• Prioritize assignments based on editorial importance and audience interest, pivoting coverage as news develops.
• Oversee writers, provide feedback, and help strengthen their news judgment and story development skills.
• Report and write entertainment access stories and other news features.
• Ensure the editorial queue is cleared before the end of the shift.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Journalism or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
• 3–5 years of experience, including at least 2 years in an editing role.
• Excellent writing, editing, and communication skills, with strong knowledge of entertainment, pop culture, and the EW brand.
• Strong time management, multitasking, and independent decision-making skills in a fast-paced environment.
• Experience with SEO, social media, content management systems, analytics tools, and Photoshop.
• Must be able to work the specified Pacific Time evening and weekend schedule.
