Operations Engineer (Nuclear Energy)

Location: Albuquerque, NM, United States; onsite at a salt production facility. Some travel may be required, up to 20%.

What you will do

• Own assigned process systems from design completion through commissioning, startup, and routine operation.
• Maintain the technical basis for system design, operating limits, equipment performance, chemistry, controls, safeguards, and failure response.
• Perform process, hydraulic, and pneumatic calculations using tools such as AFT Fathom and AFT Arrow.
• Analyze plant data, troubleshoot process equipment and control issues, and improve safety, reliability, throughput, quality, and operability.
• Develop or review commissioning, startup, performance testing, equipment acceptance, alarm rationalization, control narratives, procedures, and training.
• Support field walk-downs, system turnover, pre-startup safety reviews, hazard analyses, Management of Change, incident investigations, and corrective actions.

Requirements

• B.S. degree in Chemical, Mechanical, Materials, Nuclear, or a related engineering discipline.
• At least 3 years of relevant engineering experience in chemical processing, power generation, manufacturing, nuclear, or a similar industrial environment.
• Experience with process systems, equipment performance, troubleshooting, plant improvements, P&IDs, equipment data sheets, engineering calculations, control narratives, and vendor technical information.
• Ability to work safely and effectively in an industrial plant environment, including outdoor, noisy, elevated-height, high- and low-temperature conditions and use of required PPE.
• Ability to work onsite in Albuquerque, United States; occasional weekends, schedule flexibility, and extended hours may be required.
• Work in the facility requires authorization to access Department of Energy Part 810-controlled information; additional export-control licensing may apply to some foreign nationals.

Nice to have

• Experience with process safety management, process hazard analyses, pre-startup safety reviews, or Management of Change.
• Experience using AFT Fathom, AFT Arrow, or similar engineering software for hydraulic or pneumatic analysis.
• Experience troubleshooting instrumentation, controls, alarms, and interlocks.
• Experience with chemical specifications, vendor evaluations, material acceptance, or first-fill planning.
• Experience leading technical improvements, root-cause investigations, or corrective actions.
