TL;DR
Senior Reliability Engineer (Nuclear Energy): Developing reliability methods, experiments, models, and verification strategies for components, subsystems, and modular assemblies in factory-fabricated microreactors with an accent on reliability statistics, accelerated-life testing, and safety-critical hardware. Focus on analyzing sparse and censored data, evaluating failure modes and system dependencies, and translating reliability evidence into robust designs and risk assessments.

Location: On-site in Austin, Texas; candidates must be based in the United States

Company

hirify.global Atomics develops factory-fabricated microreactors for affordable, scalable, and reliable nuclear power, including the 10 MWe hirify.global-1 reactor.

What you will do

  • Develop and advance reliability engineering methods for components, subsystems, and modular assemblies.
  • Define reliability requirements, allocations, predictions, verification strategies, plans, reports, and technical justifications.
  • Design and review experiments, including accelerated-life, degradation, highly accelerated, and combined-stress testing.
  • Apply statistical models and analyze test and field data to estimate failure rates, life distributions, confidence intervals, and uncertainty.
  • Lead or support FMEA/FMECA, fault-tree analysis, reliability block diagrams, common-cause evaluations, and root-cause investigations.
  • Collaborate with design, test, manufacturing, quality, safety, systems, and supplier-quality teams to improve robustness, maintainability, and service life.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Nuclear, Systems, Materials, Aerospace, or another relevant engineering discipline.
  • At least seven years of relevant experience in reliability engineering, product assurance, test engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience developing and critically reviewing designs of experiments for reliability estimation or demonstration.
  • Strong knowledge of reliability statistics, life-data analysis, confidence intervals, sample-size determination, accelerated testing, and incomplete or censored data.
  • Experience applying FMEA/FMECA, fault-tree analysis, reliability block diagrams, reliability growth, and root-cause analysis to physical components and integrated hardware.
  • U.S. citizenship or U.S. person status is required for compliance with 10 CFR Part 810; non-compliant foreign citizenships are not permitted.

Nice to have

  • Advanced degree in Reliability Engineering, Statistics, Systems Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience in nuclear energy, aerospace, defense, automotive, industrial equipment, or another regulated or safety-critical industry.
  • Familiarity with probabilistic risk assessment, Bayesian reliability methods, physics-of-failure modeling, and degradation mechanisms.
  • Experience with Python, R, JMP, Minitab, MATLAB, ReliaSoft, or equivalent tools.
  • Certified Reliability Engineer or comparable professional certification.

Culture & Benefits

  • Collaborative and supportive engineering environment.
  • Opportunities for professional growth and intellectually challenging work.
  • Paid time off.
  • Corporate gym membership.
  • Strong focus on quality assurance and safety-critical engineering rigor.
