TL;DR
Winter 2027 - Piping Engineering Co-op - High Pressure Metallurgy (Metallurgy/Piping Engineering): Supporting high-pressure and high-temperature metallurgical projects through piping design, equipment calculations, hydraulic modeling, and technical documentation with an accent on autoclave technology, process equipment, and piping systems. Focus on developing P&IDs, sizing equipment, performing HAZID/HAZOP studies, and coordinating technical inputs with project teams, vendors, and clients.

Location: Mississauga, Ontario, Canada; office-based with travel to project sites, including remote sites

Salary: CAD 26.00–33.00 per hour

What you will do

  • Support studies for metallurgical projects using high-pressure and high-temperature autoclave technology for extracting copper, gold, silver, nickel, alumina, and other metals.
  • Prepare design calculations, equipment and piping documentation, technical specifications, data sheets, reports, and presentations.
  • Model piping systems with AFT Fathom, Impulse, and Arrow for incompressible, viscous, and compressible fluids.
  • Develop Piping and Instrumentation Drawings and contribute to equipment sizing, plant layouts, design reviews, and technology trade-off studies.
  • Design and specify piping systems and inline components, including pumps, valves, pressure safety relief valves, and piping stress analysis.
  • Participate in process hazard reviews, cost estimates, and coordination with designers, technicians, clients, vendors, contractors, and field personnel.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in a Mechanical Engineering degree program at an accredited university.
  • Strong understanding of engineering and business fundamentals, with critical thinking, problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to learn quickly, take on new challenges, collaborate effectively, and adapt to change.
  • Willingness and ability to travel to project sites, including remote sites.
  • Applicants must submit an official or unofficial academic transcript.

Nice to have

  • Previous co-op or summer work experience within a mechanical engineering team.
  • Academic or work experience with mechanical and piping equipment design for metallurgical process equipment.
  • Experience with ASME pressure vessels, piping, heat exchangers, tanks, or other process equipment.
