Structural Testing and Laboratory Technician (Structural Engineering)

Location: hirify.global Okanagan Campus, Kelowna, British Columbia, Canada; onsite laboratory work

Salary: CAD 31.89–36.58 per hour

What you will do

• Construct, fabricate, assemble, install, modify, and dismantle structural testing systems, loading frames, steel fixtures, instrumentation supports, and experimental components.
• Perform or coordinate cutting, drilling, grinding, fastening, welding, machining, mechanical assembly, and fabrication of steel, wood, and concrete components.
• Prepare, operate, monitor, maintain, and troubleshoot large-scale structural testing equipment, including hydraulic systems, load cells, displacement transducers, strain gauges, and data-acquisition systems.
• Prepare and revise technical drawings, fabrication details, assembly drawings, bills of materials, and laboratory documentation using AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar software.
• Coordinate with researchers, students, contractors, suppliers, consultants, and technical service units to deliver experiments safely and on schedule.
• Provide practical instruction and technical guidance to undergraduate and graduate students during laboratory work.

Requirements

• University degree in a relevant discipline or an Engineering Technology Diploma, plus at least four years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Experience with structural steel fabrication, detailing or erection, reinforced concrete construction, formwork, reinforcing steel, or concrete placement.
• Experience constructing, installing, operating, maintaining, and repairing complex equipment or systems in a research, testing, manufacturing, industrial, or university environment.
• Experience with technical drawings, AutoCAD, SolidWorks or similar drafting software, and accurate technical records.
• Knowledge of hydraulic actuators, pumps, hoses, manifolds, control systems, instrumentation, cranes, forklifts, rigging, hoisting, and material handling.
• Ability to perform physically active laboratory work and maintain strict compliance with laboratory, occupational health and safety, WHMIS, GHS, and university requirements.

Nice to have

• Red Seal certification in welding, millwright, machining, or another relevant trade.
• Occupational First Aid, forklift, aerial lift, crane, rigging, welding, or related certifications.
