TL;DR
Intermediate Water Resources Engineer (River Engineering): Leading river restoration, urban drainage, and surface water management projects with an accent on hydrologic and hydraulic modeling, detailed restoration design, and regulatory approvals. Focus on designing riverine and shoreline works, analyzing erosion and sediment transport, supporting construction administration, and managing project budgets and client relationships.

Location: Guelph, London or Oakville, Ontario, Canada; travel within Ontario, Canada and North America is required.

Salary: CAD 34.00–58.00 per hour, commensurate with experience, skills, and geographic location.

What you will do

  • Lead engineering analysis and design for river engineering, natural systems restoration, urban drainage, and surface water management projects.
  • Prepare conceptual, preliminary, and detailed designs for riverine, valley-land, wetland, and shoreline restoration, including green infrastructure, stabilization, channel realignment, and erosion and sediment control.
  • Conduct hydrologic and hydraulic modeling of urban and natural systems and participate in erosion threshold and sediment transport assessments.
  • Develop detailed designs, construction cost estimates, tender specifications, and procurement packages.
  • Support field data collection, site reconnaissance, topographic surveying, construction administration, regulatory approvals, and environmental assessments.
  • Manage project budgets, invoicing, scheduling, change management, and client relationships while mentoring junior staff and supporting proposals.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in water resources and river engineering, including natural systems assessment, river restoration design and construction, and project management.
  • Professional Engineer designation with PEO is required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Water Resources, Environmental Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience preparing technical reports and proposals, presenting to multi-stakeholder groups, and managing projects of varying size and complexity.
  • Knowledge of current regulations, legislation, and permitting requirements.
  • Valid unrestricted Class G driver’s license and clean driving record required.

Nice to have

  • Experience with ArcGIS, Global Mapper, QGIS, AutoCAD, or Civil 3D.
  • Experience with HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, SWAT, HSP-F, or EFDC.
  • Experience preparing detailed designs, cost estimates, technical specifications, and tender or procurement packages.
