Java Developer, Lead (Java)

What you will do

• Lead design and delivery for modernization workstreams supporting medical device review systems.
• Build and modernize Java applications using modern architectures, frameworks, and agile practices.
• Establish standards for code quality, testing, CI/CD, production readiness, and technical decision-making.
• Lead migration strategies for legacy Java applications, including transitions from monoliths to modular services or modern frameworks.
• Mentor developers, own code review and delivery accountability, and manage critical production support escalations.
• Evaluate emerging tools and recommend improvements for architecture, scalability, resilience, and long-term operations.

Requirements

• 8+ years of software development experience, including 6+ years with Java, Spring Boot, Hibernate or JPA, and RESTful web services.
• 4+ years leading engineers through mentoring, code review ownership, and delivery accountability.
• 3+ years with a modern JavaScript framework such as React, Vue, or Angular, including responsive and accessible UI development.
• Experience with database design and SQL optimization using technologies such as Oracle or PostgreSQL.
• Experience with legacy Java technologies including J2EE, JSP, or Servlets, plus Docker, Kubernetes, AWS or Azure, Git, CI/CD pipelines, and Jenkins.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust or Suitability/Fitness determination for the U.S. government client; a bachelor's degree is required.

Nice to have

• Experience with Jira, Confluence, automated testing frameworks, stored procedures, or advanced database performance tuning.
• Experience supporting federal health agencies such as the FDA, NIH, or HHS.
