Software Engineer II (Java/React)

Location: United States; remote-first with about 5% travel, including possible travel to Boston, MA for new-hire onboarding and occasional in-person team meetings and company events.

Salary: $107,000–$130,000 annually, plus benefits and bonus.

What you will do

• Own story-sized work from design through deployment, decomposing tasks and coordinating dependencies.
• Build full-stack features using Java or Groovy, React, TypeScript, MongoDB, and Kafka.
• Write tests, estimate work, confirm priorities, and lead release and support for owned changes.
• Debug production issues using logs, metrics, and traces, then identify root causes and ship fixes.
• Write design notes, evaluate tradeoffs, and deliver platform or process improvements.
• Review code, support onboarding, mentor interns or new hires, and collaborate with product, QA, and engineering teams.

Requirements

• Must be based in the United States and able to travel to Boston for onboarding and occasional in-person events.
• 2+ years of professional software engineering experience with increasing ownership.
• Production backend development experience with Java or Groovy.
• Experience building web applications with React, JavaScript, and TypeScript.
• Hands-on database experience, preferably MongoDB or another NoSQL store, including schema design and query writing.
• Working knowledge of event-driven systems, Git, automated testing, and CI/CD pipelines, plus a bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, or equivalent practical experience.

Nice to have

• Healthcare or life sciences experience.
• Experience with Cypress, Playwright, JUnit, or Jest.
• Familiarity with AWS, infrastructure concepts, production support, incident response, monitoring, technical specifications, feature flags, or progressive rollouts.
