TL;DR
Body Controls Hardware Design Release Engineer (Automotive): Integrating sensing devices into vehicle subsystems, developing interface control strategies and templates, and maintaining technical specifications and commodity documentation with an accent on exterior lighting, electronic module ownership, and safety- and regulatory-relevant components. Focus on CAD/PLM-based component release, DFMEA and APQP/PPAP processes, structural analysis, GD&T, tolerance analysis, and structured problem-solving across the product lifecycle.

Location: Warren, Michigan, United States; hybrid schedule with 3 days in the office and 2 days remote; must be able to report to the local office. The role requires 10% domestic and international travel.

What you will do

  • Integrate sensing devices into vehicle subsystems, including exterior lighting systems.
  • Create and maintain Interface Control Design strategy and templates.
  • Develop and maintain commodity-specific documentation.
  • Generate and maintain global subsystem and component technical specification templates.
  • Support electronic module ownership across requirements, design, validation, launch, and production.
  • Travel domestically and internationally for approximately 10% of the role.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or a related field.
  • At least two years of experience as a Design Release Engineer, Design Engineer, Hardware Engineer, or in a related occupation.
  • Two years of experience with automotive product development, including exterior lighting and electronic module ownership across the full product lifecycle.
  • Experience with DFMEA, APQP, PPAP, and Engineering Change Management for safety- and regulatory-relevant components and systems.
  • Experience with NX, TeamCenter, and Vis Mockup for packaging, interface definition, and component and assembly release.
  • Experience with 8D, DFSS, finite element or structural analysis, GD&T, and tolerance analysis.
