Product Engineer – Body Closures (Automotive)

What you will do

• Develop and release technical requirements and engineering strategies for rear closure systems, including liftgates, tailgates, cargo doors, swing gates, hinges, latches, and mechanisms.
• Create technical specifications, DVP&R, DFMEA, Control Plans, and other engineering documentation.
• Develop closure products from early concept through product launch and support system integration.
• Use CATIA V5 and CATIA/3DX to view, measure, section, and create basic 3D models and studies.
• Perform competitive benchmarking, Voice of the Customer analysis, physics-based requirements development, and futuring activities.
• Apply statics, dynamics, structural mechanics, free-body diagrams, kinematic synthesis, and Design for Manufacturing principles to resolve engineering and quality issues.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in an applicable engineering discipline.
• At least 5 years of experience developing automotive closure systems such as doors, hoods, liftgates, or tailgates.
• Experience writing technical specifications and engineering requirements.
• Experience with product engineering from early development through product launch.
• Experience with CATIA V5 3D modeling, competitive benchmarking, mechanisms, structures, statics, and dynamics.
• Ability to develop or complete free-body diagrams for moving systems.

Nice to have

• Experience with mechatronics, system integration, sheet metal structures, sealing, power struts, motors, hinges, and automotive manufacturing technologies.
• Knowledge of FEA, DFMEA, Control Plans, dimensional variation analysis, Teamcenter Engineering, and Digital Buck.
• Experience with advanced kinematic synthesis of four-bar linkages and bolted joint structures.
• Master’s degree.
