Principal Software Engineer (AI)

Location: Mountain View, California, United States

Base pay: $261,500–$353,500 per year, with potential bonus, equity rewards, and benefits.

What you will do

• Shape long-term technical direction and anticipate challenges requiring fundamentally new solutions.
• Design scalable, resilient, and adaptive systems that support innovation and delivery.
• Lead the modernization of existing systems toward AI-native architectures.
• Evaluate AI techniques and algorithm choices to deliver reliable, production-grade software.
• Set engineering standards for quality, security, and maintainability while integrating new technologies.
• Align stakeholders across teams and business units, coach technical leaders, and advise senior leadership.

Requirements

• 12+ years of experience developing systems and software for large-scale business environments.
• 8+ years designing complex distributed systems, platforms, or business applications.
• Hands-on experience integrating AI into production software and driving AI projects with commoditized AI tools and agentic workflows.
• Experience with AI/ML platforms such as Vertex AI, SageMaker, and Bedrock; LLM APIs, agent orchestration frameworks, vector databases, and Python.
• Depth in at least one modern front-end or back-end stack, including React, Angular, SwiftUI, Kotlin, Java, TypeScript, Spring, or Node.
• Production experience with AWS or GCP, plus a track record of influencing technical strategy and mentoring technical leaders.
