Senior Software Engineer - Embedded Linux (C/C++)

Location: US-WI-hirify.global-Global Technology Center; onsite work with occasional laboratory, manufacturing, vehicle, and offsite testing activities. Travel up to 200 hours per year may be required.

Pay range: $79,300.00–$126,900.00 annually across U.S. locations.

What you will do

• Design, develop, integrate, test, and maintain production-quality embedded Linux software for vehicle platforms.
• Build C/C++ applications, services, and Qt/QML user interfaces using modern Qt.
• Develop and maintain Yocto, BitBake, OpenEmbedded, BSP, layer, recipe, and image configurations.
• Support Linux and Qt migrations, dependency and security updates, toolchain changes, BSP upgrades, releases, and production troubleshooting.
• Diagnose complex issues across applications, operating systems, networking, device interfaces, hardware boundaries, and target platforms.
• Improve automated testing, CI/CD pipelines, reproducible builds, architecture, code reviews, and engineering practices while mentoring other engineers.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in computer engineering, electrical engineering, software engineering, or a related technical field.
• Five or more years of professional software development experience.
• Strong C and C++ experience, including modern object-oriented, multithreaded, and asynchronous software development.
• Professional experience with Linux or embedded Linux, Yocto Project, OpenEmbedded, BitBake, custom layers, recipes, package configurations, and embedded Linux images.
• Experience with modern Qt and Qt/QML applications, Git-based collaborative workflows, Linux debugging tools, automated unit or integration testing, and Python automation.
• U.S. Person status may be required for positions involving controlled goods and technologies under ITAR or EAR.

Nice to have

• Experience with Qt 6.8+, large-scale Qt/QML applications, Qt testing, CMake or SCons, Conan 2, static analysis, code coverage, sanitizers, and SBOM practices.
• Experience with Linux services, networking, IPC, filesystems, permissions, process management, bootloaders, device trees, kernel configuration, and driver integration.
• Experience with CAN, Ethernet, serial interfaces, SPI, I2C, AUTOSAR, SAE J1939, UDS, SAE J2012, FMVSS, or ISO 26262.
• Experience with secure boot, software signing, system hardening, vulnerability management, functional safety, CMMI, or regulated engineering environments.
• Experience with Figma, Qt Design Studio, Adobe Illustrator, or Adobe Photoshop.
