Staff Physical Design Engineer (AI Hardware): Driving block-level and top-level physical implementation for next-generation AI semiconductor chips with an accent on floorplanning, timing closure, power efficiency, and foundry tapeout. Location: Remote in the United States or Canada

Salary: $170,000–$240,000 USD per year; $170,000–$230,000 CAD per year

What you will do

  • Drive block-level and top-level physical design, including floorplanning, placement, clock tree synthesis, and routing.
  • Translate complex microarchitectures into high-performance, power-efficient silicon.
  • Achieve timing, power, and area targets through advanced timing closure techniques.
  • Perform power grid verification and resolve electromigration and IR drop issues.
  • Develop Tcl and Python automation scripts for design flows and methodologies.
  • Collaborate with physical verification and foundry teams through design rule checks and tapeout.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
  • 10–15 years of dedicated physical design experience.
  • Extensive experience with EDA implementation flows and Cadence design tools.
  • Strong knowledge of static timing analysis, advanced timing closure, low-power design, EM/IR analysis, and power grid verification.
  • Proficiency in Tcl or Python scripting for design flow automation.
  • Understanding of advanced process nodes, physical verification, routing requirements, methodology development, and foundry tapeout processes.

Nice to have

  • Hierarchical floorplanning expertise.
  • Experience with PDK management.
  • Experience evaluating advanced physical design flows.
