Area Health Information Specialist 1 (Healthcare)

What you will do

• Receive, process, retrieve, and transmit patient health information in accordance with company, facility, and HIPAA requirements.
• Maintain the confidentiality, security, accuracy, and completeness of medical records.
• Prepare patient charts, assemble records, digitize paper documents, and update electronic medical records.
• Respond to internal and external record requests, calls, walk-ins, faxes, mail, data-entry needs, and pickup scheduling.
• Report site difficulties and fluctuating volumes, meet productivity standards, and participate in operational initiatives.
• Support staff training, answer general questions, and generate reports for managers or facilities.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED and at least 1 year of health information-related experience.
• Must be at least 18 years old and able to commute between locations.
• Must be able to travel locally or regionally 75% or more of the time.
• Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM CST; overtime may be required during peak seasons.
• Basic computer, data entry, phone, fax, printer, and general office equipment skills.
• Professional verbal and written English communication, strong organization, attention to detail, and ability to work with minimal supervision.

Nice to have

• Production or metric-based work experience.
• In-person customer service experience and experience building relationships with on-site clients.
• Experience suggesting process improvements and providing feedback to internal stakeholders.
