Senior Software Engineer (Map Validation & Annotation Platform)

Location: Ann Arbor, MI; Blacksburg, VA; Fort Worth, TX; or Remote - US

Hiring range: $160,800–$193,000 USD annually, plus bonus and stock options.

What you will do

• Architect, build, and own backend services and data pipelines for map validation and simulation.
• Build scalable web-based annotation tooling with cuboid and polygon editing, interpolation, track propagation, attribute editing, and review workflows.
• Design relational, spatial, and object-storage data models supporting integrity, lineage, and performance.
• Develop high-performance point-cloud and image rendering with three.js and WebGL, including octree/LOD streaming, predictive prefetching, camera-LiDAR projection, and multi-sensor overlays.
• Build and deploy reliable AWS-based services and pipelines using services such as S3, Lambda, ECS, and RDS.
• Lead architecture decisions, mentor engineers, collaborate across Mapping, Simulation, Annotation, and Perception, and address technical debt and production reliability.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience building and operating production backend services at scale.
• Expertise in Python and strong proficiency with SQL.
• Experience building web services and APIs, with strong TypeScript and modern web-framework knowledge.
• Working knowledge of C++ and hands-on experience with PostgreSQL or similar databases.
• Experience with system architecture, distributed systems, data structures, algorithms, reliability engineering, Git, GitHub, and JIRA.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.

Nice to have

• Experience with annotation or labeling platforms, PostGIS, point clouds, imagery, video, or large-scale spatial data.
• Experience with three.js, WebGL, Potree, COPC, 3D Tiles, LAS/LAZ, HD maps, robotics data, or autonomous vehicles.
• Contributions to open-source geospatial, data engineering, simulation, robotics, or annotation projects.
