Principal Software Engineer, ATA (AI)

Location: Flexible hybrid model; in-person interviews may be required for positions based in Boston and Dublin.

Annual base salary: $170,000–$212,000 USD, plus benefits and potential bonuses, incentives, and RSUs.

What you will do

• Set technical direction and architecture for the recommendation platform across multiple engineering teams.
• Build scalable recommendation systems using shopper, vehicle, inventory, and behavioral signals.
• Partner with Data Science to productionize machine learning models and improve recommendation quality.
• Drive personalization, ranking, experimentation, and AI-powered recommendation experiences.
• Lead complex cross-functional initiatives from technical design through delivery and measurement.
• Improve reliability, scalability, observability, and operational excellence while mentoring engineers and influencing technical decisions.

Requirements

• 10+ years of experience building and operating large-scale, customer-facing software systems.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a similar field.
• Deep expertise in software architecture, distributed systems, APIs, production engineering, and cloud-native architectures.
• Strong experience with Kotlin, Java, C#, Python, SQL, and relational database performance; Kotlin is preferred.
• Experience partnering with Data Science or ML teams, including recommendation systems, feature pipelines, experimentation, model evaluation, or recommendation metrics.
• Experience with event-driven systems, streaming data, high-volume services, technical leadership, coding, design reviews, and mentoring.

Nice to have

• Experience building consumer products that help users compare options, make decisions, or navigate complex purchase journeys.
• Curiosity about AI and experience using AI to improve products or engineering productivity.
