Principal Engineer, ML (AI)

Salary: $207,900–$386,100 per year, depending on geographic market, knowledge, skills, and experience.

What you will do

• Define the long-term technical vision, architecture, and strategy for the Ads Serving & ML Platform.
• Design and evolve large-scale ad serving systems covering retrieval, ranking, auctions, targeting, pacing, and measurement.
• Drive adoption of large language models, generative AI, real-time inference, and next-generation ML infrastructure.
• Lead technical investments that improve customer relevance, advertiser outcomes, revenue, scalability, reliability, and cost efficiency.
• Partner with engineering, machine learning, product, and business leaders to align technical direction with company priorities.
• Influence architecture and engineering excellence across organizations through design reviews, mentorship, and technical leadership.

Requirements

• 12+ years of experience building large-scale software platforms, machine learning systems, or distributed infrastructure.
• Experience architecting and operating mission-critical, high-throughput online systems at internet scale.
• Deep expertise in advertising, search, recommendations, personalization, or another user-facing machine learning domain.
• Experience with model training, feature engineering, experimentation, online inference, evaluation, and production operations.
• Experience scaling AI/ML serving infrastructure and optimizing GPU- and CPU-based systems for latency, throughput, and cost.
• Strong software engineering skills in Java, C++, or Python; MS or above in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline.

Nice to have

• Experience with advertising platforms, ad ranking, auction systems, or sponsored search.
• Background in e-commerce, marketplaces, recommendations, search infrastructure, or large-scale personalization.
• Experience leading architectural transformation or platform modernization across large organizations.
• PhD in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, or a related field.
