Principal AI Scientist

Location: San Diego, California, United States

Salary: $244,000–$330,000 annual base pay, plus potential cash bonus, equity rewards, and benefits.

What you will do

• Build and deploy machine learning models using analytical algorithms and deep learning approaches.
• Lead work across machine learning, NLP, statistics, or optimization while contributing hands-on expertise.
• Develop foundational ML methods and novel applications based on state-of-the-art technologies and industry trends.
• Create capabilities that address critical business problems and influence mission-critical project direction.
• Shape multi-year technology strategy and contribute to ML platform architecture decisions.
• Lead teams and partners through the successful delivery and integration of ML solutions, including design reviews and technical mentoring.

Requirements

• PhD or MS in engineering mathematics, statistics, theoretical or computational physics, or a related field.
• 3+ years of experience as a lead in an AI science role or in AI science management.
• Expert hands-on knowledge of at least one of machine learning, NLP, statistics, or optimization.
• 6+ years of experience working with large datasets and databases, plus 6+ years with a general-purpose programming language.
• Expert experience with ML pipelines, processes, and design patterns.
• Strong leadership, communication, presentation, and executive-level influencing skills.
