What you will do

  • Own operational execution for Southern-border maquila activities and U.S. import/export processes.
  • Act as the primary operational representative to U.S. Customs, FDA, customs brokers, carriers, 3PLs, surety providers, and governmental authorities.
  • Manage RFIs, audits, regulatory inquiries, evidence collection, responses, and follow-up through resolution.
  • Oversee Temporary Importation under Bond, Importer of Record, and Exporter of Record activities to reduce penalties, bond claims, and supply disruptions.
  • Drive SOPs, controls, reconciliations, audit readiness, and cross-border process improvements.
  • Identify and implement duty-saving initiatives involving USMCA origin, drawback, FTZ, and bonded solutions while partnering with supply chain, manufacturing, quality, regulatory, legal, tax, and finance teams.

Requirements

  • Minimum bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, International Trade, Business, Law, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Fluent Spanish and English required.
  • 6–10 years of progressive experience in customs, trade compliance, or cross-border operations, including experience with maquiladora/IMMEX programs or equivalent.
  • Hands-on experience supporting Importer of Record and Exporter of Record responsibilities, Maquila and/or Temporary Importation under Bond processes, and regulated supply chains.
  • Experience with SAP GTS, customs entry software, EDI/ACE integrations, HTS classification, valuation, country-of-origin rules, USMCA, ACE/AES filing, and customs broker relationships.
  • Ability to manage complex operational issues, lead cross-functional projects, influence stakeholders without direct authority, and communicate with regulators, vendors, and senior leadership.

Nice to have

  • Licensed Customs Broker or Certified Customs Specialist credentials.
  • Experience with FDA-regulated product imports and exports.
  • Experience with duty mitigation programs, including FTZ and drawback, and preferential-origin documentation.
