Applied Chemistry Consultant

What you will do

• Design, plan and conduct laboratory experiments on chemical systems, materials, products and processes.
• Perform chemical analysis, testing and characterisation, and interpret experimental and operational data.
• Apply chemistry to technology development, materials and formulation work, process challenges, troubleshooting and failure analysis.
• Support technology assessment, technical due diligence, technology scouting and innovation strategy.
• Translate scientific findings into technical reports, presentations, proposals and practical client recommendations.
• Collaborate with chemists, physicists, biologists, engineers, materials scientists, modellers and sector specialists.

Requirements

• Degree, MSc or PhD in Chemistry, Applied Chemistry, Materials Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Polymer Chemistry, Materials Science, Electrochemistry or a related scientific or engineering discipline.
• Experience in several areas including hands-on laboratory experimentation, experimental design, chemical analysis, materials or formulation development, process development, analytical techniques and data interpretation.
• Ability to troubleshoot complex technical problems and communicate scientific findings clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.
• Curiosity, adaptability, practical problem-solving skills and comfort working with ambiguous technical challenges.
• For roles requiring UK security clearance, applicants must be British citizens or have at least five years of continuous UK residency.

Nice to have

• Experience with chemistry-specific or modelling tools.
• Background in industrial R&D, product development, formulation, materials or analytical science.
• Experience developing laboratory equipment, test rigs, analytical instruments or emerging technologies.
