Fuels Associate Researcher/Researcher (Berlin)

Location: Hybrid work based primarily in the Berlin office, Germany. After an initial minimum 6-month orientation in Berlin, work may be performed from elsewhere in Germany, France, Ireland, or Sweden, with regular visits to the Berlin office.

Salary: EUR 70,000 annual starting salary for Associate Researcher or EUR 84,000 for Researcher, based on experience and working 40 hours per week in Germany.

What you will do

• Analyze the cost, life-cycle greenhouse-gas emissions, and availability of low-GHG renewable fuels, including hydrogen derivatives and biofuels.
• Research EU policies such as the Renewable Energy Directive, FuelEU Maritime, and ReFuelEU Aviation.
• Write technical reports, policy briefs, and articles supported by clear, accessible figures.
• Present research findings to technical and non-technical audiences in public and private forums.
• Collaborate with global Fuels colleagues, EU teams, policymakers, industry stakeholders, and external partners.

Requirements

• Associate Researcher: bachelor’s or master’s degree in a relevant discipline plus at least two years of related experience, or a PhD.
• Researcher: master’s or PhD degree in a relevant field plus at least three years of related experience.
• Excellent research, quantitative, written, and verbal communication skills.
• Proficiency in Excel and the ability to work independently with limited supervision.
• Fluency in English is required.
• Availability for occasional work travel, mostly within the EU.

Nice to have

• Python or R skills.
• Experience with life-cycle assessment or techno-economic analysis.
• Additional European language skills.
