Java Software Engineer (Backend)

Location: Belgrade, Serbia; candidates must be based in Serbia and able to work from the Belgrade office. Flexible working hours and the possibility to work from home are available.

What you will do

• Design, build, and maintain reliable JVM backend services and well-structured APIs.
• Solve complex technical problems in a correctness-sensitive business domain.
• Contribute to event-driven workflows and asynchronous processing.
• Apply test-first and test-informed practices to produce readable, maintainable code.
• Collaborate with colleagues in Belgrade and Zurich and work directly with the client.
• Share knowledge, contribute ideas, and stay curious about new technologies.

Requirements

• 3+ years of professional Java experience and strong knowledge of the modern JVM ecosystem.
• Hands-on experience with Spring Boot or another modern JVM framework.
• Knowledge of architectural and design patterns with a focus on quality, readability, and maintainability.
• Practical experience working in an agile team.
• Technical degree or equivalent professional qualification.
• Fluent written and spoken English; based in Serbia and able to work from the Belgrade office.

Nice to have

• Quarkus experience.
• GraalVM and native compilation.
• Apache Kafka or comparable event-streaming experience.
• Container experience, cloud-native architectures, containerized deployment, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Experience with long-lived product codebases rather than short-cycle project work.
