Senior Commodity Manager (HDD)

Location: San Jose, California, United States; hybrid working environment with some in-office and/or in-person expectations

What you will do

• Own and execute the global HDD commodity and supplier strategy, aligning technology roadmaps, capacity, capabilities, and commercial agreements with business requirements.
• Build executive-level relationships with strategic HDD suppliers and lead supplier selection, qualification, business reviews, and performance management.
• Lead complex negotiations covering multi-year agreements, pricing, capacity commitments, allocation protections, supply assurance, and business continuity.
• Partner with Engineering, Product Management, Operations, Finance, and senior leadership on technology transitions, lifecycle planning, cost, availability, and performance objectives.
• Develop market intelligence, cost models, quotation analyses, and total-cost-of-ownership assessments.
• Identify and mitigate geopolitical, trade, regulatory, logistics, regional concentration, quality, allocation, and other supply-chain risks.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Business, Engineering, Operations, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 7+ years of progressive experience in strategic sourcing, procurement, supply chain, sales, product marketing, pricing, business development, supplier management, or a related commercial role.
• Experience in the HDD industry and in developing commercial strategies, negotiating agreements, managing strategic relationships, or leading complex cross-functional initiatives.
• Strong commercial, analytical, negotiation, quotation-analysis, market-assessment, and business-case development skills.
• Ability to influence cross-functionally and engage credibly with senior stakeholders and external partners without direct-report authority.
• Ability to work effectively in a hybrid environment with globally distributed teams and suppliers.

Nice to have

• MBA, master’s degree, or advanced degree in Business, Engineering, Supply Chain, Operations, or a related field.
• Direct experience in HDD procurement, strategic sourcing, commodity management, or supplier management.
• 10+ years of experience in enterprise storage, data-center infrastructure, server hardware, or related technology hardware.
• Experience with long-term supply agreements, capacity commitments, allocation protections, supply assurance, shortages, and business-continuity planning.
• Deep knowledge of HDD manufacturing, assembly, testing, quality, capacity planning, technology transitions, cost drivers, product lifecycles, and market dynamics.
