Laboratory Technician (Environmental and Oil & Gas)

Location: Middlesbrough, United Kingdom. Full-time, permanent position; 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday, working in an environmental laboratory.

What you will do

• Prepare and analyse water, soil, waste, oil and gas, and other environmental samples.
• Operate laboratory instrumentation and perform testing according to recognised industry methods and procedures.
• Record, review, and manage laboratory results in the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
• Perform quality control checks and assist with investigations when results fall outside expected parameters.
• Support laboratory equipment maintenance, calibration, troubleshooting, and sample kit dispatch.
• Contribute to continuous improvement while maintaining quality, safety, and compliance standards.

Requirements

• Interest in science, chemistry, environmental testing, or laboratory operations.
• Strong attention to detail when preparing, measuring, and analysing samples.
• Good organisational, written, verbal communication, and computer skills.
• Ability to manage multiple deadlines and remain focused in a fast-paced laboratory environment.
• GCSEs or equivalent in Science, Maths, and English.

Nice to have

• Previous laboratory experience.
• Experience in a UKAS-accredited laboratory.
• Exposure to environmental, petrochemical, oil and gas, water, waste, or industrial testing.
• Knowledge of LIMS or similar laboratory software.
