Senior Claims Examiner, Ocean Marine

Location: New York, NY; US work authorization required

Salary: $78,000–$107,250 annual base salary, plus 15% incentive

What you will do

• Handle moderate to high complexity ocean marine first- and third-party property damage claims, including ocean cargo, hull, piers, wharves and docks, protection and indemnity, and marina operator’s legal liability claims.
• Review policies and supporting documentation, confirm coverage, analyze liability and damages, and prepare coverage position letters.
• Direct investigations, outside counsel, experts, and vendors while managing litigation and controlling claim expenses.
• Set reserves within authority, recommend reserve changes, negotiate settlements, and drive timely claim resolution.
• Present higher-exposure cases to claims leaders and underwriters, and coordinate loss information for business stakeholders and insureds.
• Provide technical training and mentorship to other claims handlers.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.
• 5+ years of ocean marine or liability claims handling experience, with applied knowledge of ocean cargo claims.
• Experience with negotiation, mediation, arbitration, and monitoring trials involving complex claims.
• Advanced knowledge of complex claims topics, policy language interpretation, claims strategy, and vendor management.
• Excellent communication, analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills, with intermediate Microsoft Office proficiency.
• Must have or be eligible to obtain a claims adjuster license in all states and already hold US work authorization.

• JD, advanced degree, or focused technical degree.
• Bodily injury or commercial auto claims experience.
• Industry designations such as INS, IEA, AIC, ARM, SCLA, CPCU, or AMIM.
