Flight Software Engineer (Aerospace)

Location: Barcelona, Spain; hybrid role with regular on-site presence at the Barcelona HQ. Candidates must be based in Barcelona or willing to relocate to Spain. Occasional travel to external test campaigns and extended hours may be required around launch and in-orbit commissioning windows.

Sateliot is a Barcelona-based satellite company developing a constellation that enables standard commercial devices to communicate directly from space.

What you will do

• Own the development of on-board flight software from baseline development through flight-ready release.
• Define and execute unit, integration, and system-level verification and validation campaigns.
• Develop robust and reliable software for operation in the space environment.
• Integrate on-board software with satellite subsystems, interfaces, and the overall system architecture.
• Resolve issues across software, hardware, interfaces, and communication protocols during bench testing, AIT campaigns, and in-orbit operations.

Requirements

• 5+ years of embedded software development in C or C++ for resource-constrained targets.
• Hands-on experience with a real-time operating system such as FreeRTOS, RTEMS, VxWorks, or an equivalent.
• Experience with satellite data interfaces including SpaceWire, CAN Bus, RS-422, RS-485, Ethernet, or MIL-STD-1553.
• Experience creating and executing embedded software unit and integration test suites on target hardware.
• Based in Barcelona or willing to relocate to Spain; regular on-site presence is required.
• Availability for occasional travel and extended hours during launch and in-orbit commissioning windows.

Nice to have

• Python or another modern scripting language for test automation and tooling.
• Familiarity with ECSS and CCSDS standards or experience in aerospace and safety-critical systems.
• Experience with CI/CD for embedded systems, Linux, Git, and modern software development workflows.
• Experience with FlatSat, hardware-in-the-loop, satellite AIT/AIV, commissioning, or in-orbit operations.
• Cleanroom experience or willingness to work in a cleanroom environment.
