What you will do

• Install, remove, maintain, and repair overhead and underground distribution and communication systems.
• Install and remove poles, cross arms, towers, enclosures, ducts, piping, transformers, switches, capacitors, and protective equipment.
• Install, splice, terminate, and test conductors and cables.
• Connect, test, adjust, repair, and maintain electrical equipment and apparatus.
• Work safely on or near energized lines and equipment using required tools and protective equipment.
• Operate test instruments, construction vehicles, and powered equipment while collaborating with and directing apprentices and helpers.

Requirements

• Certified Journeyman Lineman with a Journeyman Lineman card.
• Valid Class A motor vehicle operator’s license.
• Weight below 285 pounds due to safety-equipment restrictions.
• Experience working with utility poles, including climbing and descending.
• Ability to work safely in varied climates, at height, and in confined vault spaces.
• Ability to work onsite in Long Beach, California.

Nice to have

• Distribution or transmission journeyman lineman experience.
• Knowledge of electrical utility construction methods, overhead and underground materials, tools, equipment, and test procedures.
• Experience with Fall Restraint Equipment and ANSI- or OSHA-approved climbing systems.
• Experience with California State General Orders 95 and 128.
• Red Cross or American Heart Association CPR certification.

Hiring process

• The required assessment is the Lineman Physical Performance Test 4016.
• Candidates who previously passed the assessment may not need to retest in some cases.
