Underground Lineman (Electrical Distribution)

Location: Northern Mississippi, United States. Primarily outdoor utility construction work with regular travel, storm-response assignments, overtime, nights, weekends, and holidays as required.

Salary: $23–$45 per hour, plus location-dependent per diem. Final compensation depends on experience, qualifications, and overall fit.

What you will do

• Install, maintain, troubleshoot, repair, remove, and restore underground electrical distribution facilities.
• Install and work with underground cable, conduit, transformers, switchgear, conductors, and related equipment.
• Perform cable pulling, replacement, termination preparation, splicing preparation, testing, fault locating, switching, load transfers, and outage restoration.
• Operate utility vehicles and construction equipment, including excavators, digger derricks, cable pullers, vacuum excavators, and trenchers.
• Read construction drawings, staking sheets, system maps, blueprints, and work orders; maintain accurate work and inspection records.
• Support emergency and storm restoration operations and provide training and mentoring to less experienced crew members as qualifications allow.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Valid driver's license; Lineman C employees must be able to obtain a CDL Class A license, while Lineman B and A employees require a CDL Class A license.
• Lineman B: preferred two or more years of underground utility or electrical distribution experience.
• Lineman A: preferred journeyman lineman certification or equivalent experience and five or more years of underground distribution construction, maintenance, and restoration experience.
• Ability to work safely around energized and de-energized electrical systems, read technical documents and utility drawings, and perform physically demanding outdoor work, including lifting up to 75 pounds and working in confined spaces.
• Must be able to travel for work and respond to extended-hours emergency and storm restoration assignments.
