Quality Assurance Engineer (Semiconductor)

Location: Penang, Malaysia; onsite role with approximately 30% domestic and international travel

What you will do

• Improve supplier quality, reduce the cost of poor quality, and support supplier qualification, audits, development, and performance management.
• Develop and audit Product Quality Plans covering process flows, pFMEAs, Control Plans, Measurement System Analysis, and Statistical Process Control.
• Partner with Design, Manufacturing Engineering, Supply Chain, and suppliers on specifications, engineering drawings, GD&T, inspection methods, and critical-to-quality requirements.
• Lead cross-functional containment, failure investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective and preventive actions for product and field quality issues.
• Analyze production, installation, service, and field data; maintain quality KPIs and dashboards; and improve quality documentation and inspection strategies.
• Influence suppliers and internal stakeholders without direct authority while driving issues through accountable closure.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, Manufacturing, Quality Engineering, or a related technical field.
• At least five years of relevant experience in Supplier Quality Engineering, Product Quality Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related quality role.
• Experience in capital equipment, semiconductor equipment, high-technology manufacturing, or another complex electromechanical environment is strongly preferred.
• Practical knowledge of 8D, FMEA, 5-Whys, Fishbone/Ishikawa analysis, SPC, MSA, Control Plans, CAPA, supplier auditing, statistics, and data analysis.
• Strong understanding of engineering drawings, GD&T, metrology, inspection methods, and communication with suppliers, technical teams, customers, and management.
• Ability to work autonomously, manage competing priorities, influence cross-functional teams, and travel approximately 30% domestically and internationally.

Nice to have

• ASQ quality, supplier quality, quality auditor, or lead auditor certification.
• Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification.
• Experience with Excel, Minitab, Power BI, Sigma Solutions, SAP ERP Quality and Service modules, or similar tools.
• Familiarity with Scrum or Kanban methodologies.
