Manufacturing Engineer, Equipment (CMC)

Location: Torrance, California or Rio Rancho, New Mexico; on-site production-floor work required

What you will do

• Design, build, assemble, and test manufacturing equipment, tooling, fixtures, and support systems for CMC production.
• Lead equipment development projects from requirements definition through design, fabrication, testing, commissioning, and implementation.
• Modify and upgrade production equipment to improve performance, reliability, safety, throughput, and process stability.
• Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, vacuum, thermal, and process-related issues and implement corrective actions.
• Support equipment installation, qualification, startup, maintenance planning, repairs, and daily manufacturing operations.
• Create engineering drawings, equipment layouts, bills of material, work instructions, SOPs, operating procedures, and nonconformance documentation.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Hands-on experience designing, building, testing, or troubleshooting hardware.
• Experience with CAD and engineering drawings.
• Ability to use hand tools, power tools, measurement equipment, and basic fabrication equipment.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to diagnose equipment problems independently in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
• Willingness to support off-shift production, maintenance, or testing activities when required; access to classified or export-controlled information may require additional U.S. government authorization or eligibility.

Nice to have

• Experience with Formula SAE, Baja SAE, collegiate rocketry, robotics, motorsports, machine shops, or comparable hands-on engineering programs.
• Experience designing industrial equipment, tooling, fixtures, automation systems, or production machinery.
• Experience with vacuum systems, thermal processing equipment, furnaces, reactors, machining, welding, fabrication, or assembly.
• Manufacturing operations experience in aerospace, automotive, energy, or other high-performance industries.
• Familiarity with root cause analysis, equipment reliability, and continuous improvement methodologies.
