Environmental Manager (Aerospace/Defense)

Location: Torrance, California, United States; willingness to travel between company operating locations is required.

What you will do

• Build and lead the company-wide environmental function, including strategy, governance, management systems, metrics, and organizational growth.
• Develop permitting strategies and manage environmental permits, regulatory approvals, due diligence, and agency relationships for facilities, acquisitions, leases, and expansion projects.
• Establish and oversee air quality, hazardous waste, industrial stormwater, SPCC, wastewater, EPCRA, inspections, monitoring, reporting, and EMS programs aligned with ISO 14001 principles.
• Partner with Engineering, Manufacturing, Facilities, Operations, Supply Chain, and Program Management to integrate environmental requirements into facility design, production, testing, commissioning, and operational readiness.
• Lead environmental audits, assessments, inspections, incident investigations, corrective actions, risk mitigation, pollution prevention, and continuous improvement.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
• 10+ years of progressive leadership and technical environmental experience in manufacturing, aerospace, defense, semiconductor, chemical processing, or other complex industrial operations.
• Experience developing Environmental Management Systems aligned with ISO 14001 principles and managing environmental permits and regulatory compliance programs.
• Experience with environmental due diligence, hazardous waste characterization and management, regulatory interpretation, and risk-based operational solutions.
• Strong communication, project management, critical thinking, problem-solving, organization, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
• Access to export-controlled information may require U.S. Government security clearance, government authorization, citizenship, or other eligibility requirements, depending on the position designation.

Nice to have

• Complex air quality permitting experience, including emissions inventories, air dispersion modeling, and long-term permitting strategy.
• Experience with SCAQMD, TCEQ, or NMED permitting requirements.
• Experience with greenfield facilities, manufacturing startups, major expansions, aerospace, defense, propulsion, energetics, or other high-consequence manufacturing environments.
• CHMM, REM, QEP, or PE certification.
