TL;DR
Senior Space Embedded Software Engineer (C++/Aerospace): Building reliable firmware and embedded software that controls spacecraft, satellite buses, and reentry capsules throughout their missions with an accent on safety-critical development, real-time systems, and flight operations. Focus on capturing requirements, designing bare-metal, RTOS, or Linux-based software, and validating system quality and performance through testing and verification.

Location: On-site in El Segundo, California, United States. The role requires employees working in the U.S. to be lawfully authorized and limits access to export-controlled technology to U.S. persons.

Salary: $169,067–$216,031 per year, plus potential stock options and/or long-term cash awards.

What you will do

  • Develop firmware controlling spacecraft, satellite bus, and reentry capsule operations throughout the mission.
  • Own software design, development, testing, integration, and flight operational support.
  • Capture requirements and perform initial design trades for open-ended engineering problems.
  • Write structured bare-metal, RTOS, or Linux-based software for embedded processors in C++.
  • Build highly reliable and available software systems.
  • Apply software testing, verification, and validation techniques to ensure quality and performance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, mathematics, physics, engineering, or equivalent technical experience in safety-critical software.
  • 5+ years of experience developing spacecraft or similar safety-critical software.
  • Experience developing and testing real-time embedded hardware and software systems.
  • Professional experience with C++ and strong knowledge of its language concepts.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States and qualify as a U.S. person for export-controlled technology access.

Nice to have

  • Safety-critical software experience, particularly in aerospace.
  • Experience with Python or Rust.
  • Strong knowledge of computer architecture, operating systems, data structures, and computer networking.
