Senior Backend Engineer (AI)

Location: Remote, Poland. The base salary range applies to residents of the EU in the specified country or countries only.

Salary: 272,000–408,000 PLN base salary per year, excluding bonuses, equity, and benefits.

What you will do

• Design, implement, and evolve moderate to complex backend product capabilities with minimal guidance.
• Make architectural decisions across modular monoliths, shared components, and independently operated services.
• Define standards for backend code quality, maintainability, testing, APIs, security, availability, and operational readiness.
• Diagnose and prevent performance and reliability issues at scale, participate in incident response, and take technical ownership.
• Mentor associate and intermediate engineers, remove technical blockers, and improve delivery through code and design reviews.
• Integrate agentic AI into production engineering workflows and coach others on responsible, high-judgment use.

Requirements

• Strong command of backend architecture, APIs, data systems, and performance tuning.
• Proficiency in modern backend languages and a deep understanding of systems programming.
• Experience designing modular backend boundaries, bounded contexts, and migration-safe architectures.
• Ability to lead through technical influence, sound judgment, and clear written communication in an asynchronous environment.
• Proven experience building or operating agentic systems in production, including tool use, architectural loops, and error-handling strategies.
• Must be resident in Poland and eligible under the EU country-based hiring requirements.

Nice to have

• Experience with high-throughput distributed systems, concurrency, or profiling.
• Hands-on experience with Kubernetes and containerized production operations.
• Database performance expertise with PostgreSQL, ClickHouse, schema evolution, or partitioning.
• Experience with large-scale modular monoliths, event-driven systems, open-source maintenance, or developer-focused SaaS.
