Senior Microsoft Windows SQL Server DBA

What you will do

• Architect, install, configure, maintain, patch, and upgrade Microsoft SQL Server instances across multi-server Windows environments.
• Lead application and database performance engineering by analyzing execution plans, wait statistics, DMVs, Extended Events, Query Store data, and problematic queries.
• Design, implement, and test backup, point-in-time recovery, RTO/RPO, Always On Availability Groups, WSFC, and Log Shipping solutions.
• Govern database security, including role-based access, auditing, encryption, least-privilege controls, and regulatory requirements.
• Own capacity planning, schema and deployment change governance, monitoring automation, and database platform scalability.
• Mentor junior and mid-level DBAs and lead escalation, response, and post-incident reviews for Severity 1 database outages.

Requirements

• 7+ years of hands-on SQL Server DBA experience in large-scale, mission-critical production environments.
• Expert proficiency with Microsoft SQL Server 2019/2025 on Windows Server 2019/2022, including advanced T-SQL, query optimization, execution plans, indexing, partitioning, and performance troubleshooting.
• Deep experience resolving ORM anti-patterns, N+1 queries, lock contention, blocking chains, and application-level performance issues with development teams.
• Proven experience with Always On Availability Groups, WSFC, DR failover, point-in-time restores, recovery testing, and disaster recovery planning.
• Strong knowledge of Windows Server administration, Active Directory, Kerberos authentication, Wait Statistics, DMVs, Extended Events, and Query Store.
• Ability to lead technical projects, mentor team members, and work with ITIL change, incident, and problem management processes.

Nice to have

• Microsoft DP-300 or legacy MCSE Data Management & Analytics certification.
• Experience with Azure SQL Database, SQL Server on Azure VMs, or hybrid configurations.
• Experience with APM and database monitoring tools such as Dynatrace, AppDynamics, New Relic, Redgate SQL Monitor, SolarWinds DPA, or SentryOne.
• PowerShell and dbatools experience, SSIS exposure, and knowledge of GDPR, ISO 27001, or SOC 2.
• Experience with database CI/CD tools such as Flyway, Liquibase, or Redgate Deployment Manager.
